SAN FRANCISCO – Sophomore
Savannah Camp had 17 points and 13 rebounds, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped a 50-48 heartbreaker in overtime to San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Thursday night at the Swamp.
CSUSM led 27-20 at the half but were unable to stop the red-hot Gators who shot 52.4-percent from the field in the second half. The Cougars made just 1-of-8 shots in overtime.
The Cougars fall to 5-15 overall and 3-12 in CCAA play. SF State improves to 8-15, 6-11 in conference action.
It was Camp's fifth double-double of the season. Senior
Brianna Higgins pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds. Junior
Ashley Ontiveros added 12 points and six rebounds.
The Cougars had their best rebounding performance of the season, finishing with 46 to the Gators 32. Poor shooting from the field in the second half proved to be the difference as CSUSM went 6-of-29 (20.7-percent).
SF State's Naila Washington led all scorers with 18 points. Tatsiana Dashevich added 13 points and Kiara Ginwright blocked eight shots.
The Cougars close out their Bay Area road trip on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Sonoma State. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
