ARCATA, Calif. – A hot shooting second half powered the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team to a 62-59 upset Thursday night over California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament bound Humboldt State at Lumberjack Arena.
The Cougars shot 46.4 (13-of-28) from the field after the intermission after a 29.4 performance in the first 20 minutes.
CSUSM improves to 7-17 overall and 5-14 in CCAA action. The Jacks end their regular season with at 13-14, 10-10 in conference play.

Savannah Camp passed the 20-point plateau for the sixth time this season, scoring a game-high 27 points. Junior
Ashley Jenkins recorded 14 points and classmate
Jasmine Matar added nine points off the bench. Senior
Brianna Higgins pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
CSUSM came out strong, taking an 18-12 lead in the first quarter. Twelve of those points came from beyond the 3-point arc with Jenkins sinking two of the buckets.
The Jacks regrouped in the second frame, outscoring the Cougars 16-7 to take a 28-25 lead into the break.
The Cougars trailed most of the third quarter, finally taking a 43-41 lead on a lay-up by Matar with 32 seconds remaining. The lead was short lived as HSU's Kiana Brown dropped a 3-pointer with four seconds on the clock.
HSU opened the final frame with an 8-0 run before CSUSM's offense finally woke from its slumber. A jumper by Higgins put the Cougars within striking distance at 56-55 HSU with 2:33 remaining. HSU's Brown connected on a 3-pointer at seven seconds to make it 60-59 CSUSM. An 8-of-9 free throw shooting performance clinched the Cougars their fifth CCAA victory.
Amanda Kunst led the Jacks with 17 points and Brown added 11 points.
CSUSM concludes the season at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
