Stanislaus State Preview

Last Time Out: W, 3-2 (Feb. 3, 2013); The Cougars twice came back from a run down to beat the Warriors in the Best of the West Invite.
Melyssa Bellamy scored on an error to make it 1-1, before
Tayler Ybarra tied the game with an RBI single to make it 2-2. Alex Miller had a two-out RBI single to score Patty Banda for the game-winner in the top of the seventh.
Stan St. Breakdown: Stan St. was swept last weekend in La Jolla by UC San Diego by a combined score of 41-10. The Warriors, picked to finish 10
th in the CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, currently have the highest ERA (9.19) in the CCAA.
Cougars Split in CCAA Debut vs. CSUDHThe Cougars went 2-2 last weekend in their CCAA debut against Cal State Dominguez Hills, twice beating the Toros by one run and twice falling in extra innings. The 3-2 victory in game one was the first conference victory in program history for the Cougars.
Amanda Lejano led the Cougars with a .462 average during the series, just ahead of
Brogan Hoenisch's .417 clip. Ybarra had five RBI in the series.
Amanda Horbasch was 2-1 in three appearances, allowing just five earned runs and nine hits in 15.0 innings.
Notes (all stats CCAA games only)CSUSM's .322 batting average is third-highest in the conference … Lejano's .462 average is eighth-highest … Bellamy and Lejano are tied for third in the CCAA with six hits …
Rylee Johnson and Horbasch are tied for third with four walks … San Francisco State was the only team not to play a CCAA game last week … All teams that played either went 4-0, 2-2 or 0-4.

Laurie Nevarez is in her third season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Hired in 2014, Nevarez has put together a 77-33-1 (.698) record in her first two years while mentoring 13 all-conference selections. Over her 12-year head coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 396-149-2 (.726) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
