ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team completed its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sweep in program history with a 60-49 victory over Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon at The Wolves Den. The Cougars defeated the Seawolves 73-61 on Dec. 15 at MiraCosta College.
After trailing 24-22 at the break, CSUSM shot 14-of-22 (63.6-percent) from the field and went 6-of-9 (66.7-percent) from beyond the arc in the second half to clinch the victory.
The Cougars improve to 6-15 overall and 4-12 in CCAA play. The Seawolves fall to 8-18, 3-14 in conference action.
"I am really proud of our team," said Head Coach
Renee Jimenez. "Our record doesn't in any way indicate how good of a team we are this season. The team has shown great resiliency this season and really stayed together which showed in today's win."
Three Cougars reached double digits in scoring with sophomore
Savannah Camp leading the way with 20 points.
Ashley Ontiveros chipped in 15 points and
Paige Barber added 11 points. Senior
Brianna Higgins controlled the boards with 12 rebounds with nine coming in the first half.
Sonoma State spread out its offense with all nine Seawolves on the court making at least one field goal. Jerrica Crosby and Hannah Sourek each tallied eight points in the contest.
The Cougars host UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino next week.
