Cougars Clash with Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team travels to Pomona on Saturday to take on the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
  • CSUSM went 1-1 in CCAA play last week.
  • The Cougars fell to Cal State San Bernardino in a heartbreaker, 69-66. Senior guard Ashley Jenkins scored a season-best 20 points and junior forward Allie Tobie narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Cougars topped Chico State, 63-61, in CSUSM's annual Homecoming Game on Saturday. Junior guard Raegan Lillie poured in a team-high 14 points for CSUSM. Junior forward Savannah Camp tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • As a team, CSUSM ranks second in the CCAA in free throw percentage (.776) and third in blocked shots per game (3.57).
  • Jenkins received the program's first CCAA Player of the Week honor last week after averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals.

RUNDOWN OF CAL POLY POMONA
  • CSUSM is 0-1 all-time against CPP.
  • The Cougars dropped a 58-38 decision at CPP in the 2015-16 season finale.
  • CPP's Priscilla Brooks is pulling down a conference-best 8.8 rebounds per game
  • The Broncos lead the CCAA in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 56.5 points a game.
  • CPP was picked to finish third in the CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll.

THE CCAA CONFERENCE
  • Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
  • The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
 
THE JIMENEZ FILE
  • Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
  • Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 overall record in her eight seasons of coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay, prior to arriving at CSUSM.
