Camp’s 29 Points Leads Cougars Over Cal State L.A., 77-68

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Junior forward Savannah Camp scored a career-high 29 points as the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team defeated Cal State L.A. in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup by a final score of 77-68, Saturday at The Sports Center.
 
The Cougars improve to 4-2 in conference play and 7-4 overall with the win. The Golden Eagles drop to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA.
 
CSUSM shot 45 percent (27-60) from the field, 47.1 percent (8-17) from three-point range and 78.9 percent (15-19) from the charity stripe, while limiting CSULA to 38.2 percent (26-68) shooting from the floor, 19.4 percent (6-31) from behind the arc and 71.4 percent (10-14) on free throws. The Cougars won the rebound battle 36-32, while the Golden Eagles won the turnover battle 28-24.
 
Camp scored a career-high 29 points, going 10-for-16 on field goals, and added eight rebounds. Junior guard Raegan Lillie and senior guard Dee Armenta added 15 and 11 points, respectively. Rachel DiRegolo and Samantha Lee were CSULA's leading scorers with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
 
CSUSM took a 33-26 lead at halftime after limiting the Golden Eagles to 11-for-39 shooting, including 1-for-18 from behind the arc in the first two quarters.
 
The Cougars shot lights out in the second half, going 15-for-29 on field goals, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc. CSUSM took a 12-point advantage, 55-43, into the final quarter as Armenta nailed a three-pointer with time expiring in the third.
 
CSULA started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to make it a four-point game, 55-51. The Cougars responded and increased their lead to 15 points, 72-57. It was the largest advantage of the game for CSUSM. The margin proved to be insurmountable for the Golden Eagles as the Cougars prevailed by nine.
 
CSUSM will hit the road for its next two contests. The Cougars will take on Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
