LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak as the Cougars dropped an 80-49 decision to No. 23 Saginaw Valley State in the UC San Diego Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars fall to 3-2 overall and the Cardinals improve to 4-1 on the season.
Senior guard
Ashley Jenkins led the Cougars with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. Junior guard
Stephanie Somers chipped in eight points and a blocked shot. Junior forward
Savannah Camp knocked down seven points in her 14 minutes on the court.
A 17-5 run to close out the first quarter gave SVSU a 27-13 lead and the Cardinals never looked back.
CSUSM was out-rebounded 51-24 by SVSU.
SVSU's Emily Wendling, an All-American last season, recorded a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cougars resume their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when they host Cal State San Bernardino in The Sports Center at 5:30 p.m.
