SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team's comeback attempt against Cal State San Bernardino came up short as the Cougars fell to the Coyotes by a final score of 69-66 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Wednesday at The Sports Center.

The Cougars drop to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA. The Coyotes improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

CSUSM shot 29.4 percent (19-67) from the floor, 29.6 percent (8-27) from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (20-24) from the free throw line. CSUSB shot 37.7 percent (26-69) on field goals, 27.3 percent (3-11) from three-point range and 60.9 percent (14-23) from the charity stripe.

The Cougars narrowly won the rebounding battle 46-44 with 19 of CSUSM's 46 rebounds coming on the offensive end. The Cougars committed 20 turnovers, while the Coyotes had 19.

Senior guard
Ashley Jenkins scored a game-high 20 points for the Cougars to go along with three assists and four steals. Junior forward
Allie Tobie narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Mya Johnson and Casie Johnson were CSUSB's leading scorers with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

After trailing 15-10 at the end of the first, CSUSM outscored the Coyotes 21-15 to take a 31-30 lead at halftime on two Jenkins free throws.

CSUSB took its biggest lead of the game, 57-50, with 7:30 left in the game. The Cougars came all the way back and closed the margin to two on a
Monica Friedl layup with 48 seconds remaining, but could not connect on key baskets down the stretch.
