ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener on Saturday night to Humboldt State, 89-78, at Lumberjack Arena.
CSUSM falls to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA with the setback, while HSU moves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in league action.

Ethan Alvano tallied 24 points, making 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Junior forward
Joe Boyd notched his third double-double of the season after recording 15 points and 14 boards. Senior
Tyson Kygar added 11 points while senior
Dayton Boddie amassed 10 points and eight rebounds for CSUSM.
CSUSM trailed 47-41 at the break but back-to-back 3-pionters by Alvano to open the second stanza evened the game at 47-47. The Cougars led 61-56 at the midpoint of the second half, but an 18-1 run gave the Jacks all the cushion they needed to cruise to a victory.
Both squads shot 42.9 percent from the floor with CSUSM tallying a slight edge behind the arc at 50.0 percent (10-of-20) to HSU's 41.9 percent (13-of-31).
Nikhil Lizotte scored 25 points, making 6-of-9 from behind the 3-point line, to pace the Lumberjacks.
The Cougars host Cal State San Bernardino this Wednesday in their CCAA home opener at 7:30 p.m. at The Sports Center.
