SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team led 42-16 at the end of the first half en route to a 70-55 win over Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action, Wednesday at The Sports Center.

The Cougars win their first CCAA game and improve to 1-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall. The Coyotes drop to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.

CSUSM shot 42.9 percent (24-56) from the field, 41.2 percent (7-17) from behind the arc and 75 percent (15-20) from the charity stripe and limited CSUSB to 32.2 percent (19-59) shooting on field goals, 31.6 percent (6-19) on three-pointers and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the free throw line.

The Cougars were led by junior forward
Joe Boyd, who nearly came away with a double-double, with 18 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard
Ethan Alvano and senior guards
Tyson Kygar and
Dayton Boddie contributed 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively.

Everett Turner was the Coyotes' leading scorer with a game-high 24 points. No other CSUSB player had double-digit points.

CSUSM jumped out to a 42-16 halftime lead after hitting 15-of-31 shots, including going 6-for-10 from behind the arc, and limited CSUSB to just 21.2 percent (7-33) shooting in the half. The Cougars grabbed their biggest lead of the game, 42-16, when junior guard
Brian Wright nailed a three-pointer before the halftime buzzer.

The Coyotes fired back in the second half and cut the margin to 10 points, 57-47, on a three-pointer from Turner. CSUSM then went on a 13-8 run the rest of the way to account for the final score.

CSUSM will host its Homecoming game against Chico State on Saturday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m.
