THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- The Cougars defeated Humboldt State on the road, 65-51, last Thursday in their conference opener.
- Juniors Savannah Camp scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including a 3-of-6 performance from behind the arc.
- CSUSM & HSU are the first teams to play a conference game this season, with most teams not starting CCAA play until the week of Nov. 28.
RUNDOWN OF AZUSA PACIFIC
- CSUSM is 0-1 overall against APU.
- The teams last met on Dec. 28, 2011 in CSUSM's inaugural season. A slow start by the Cougars put them in a 19-0 hole just eight minutes in and led to a 76-59 loss to APU.
- APU has played three CCAA schools so far this season, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills (Nov. 11) 70-68 before dropping back-to-back decisions to Cal Poly Pomona (Nov. 12) and Cal State L.A. (Nov. 15) by scores of 56-67 and 61-64, respectively.
- APU was picked to finish second in the PacWest Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
- This will be the first meeting between the Cougars and Cardinals.
- Last season, SVSU fell to eventual NCAA Division II Final Four participant Grand Valley State, 56-63, in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Semifinals.
- The Cardinals return All-American center Emily Wendling who is averaging 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
- SVSU was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division.
THE CCAA CONFERENCE
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
THE JIMENEZ FILE
- Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
- Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 in her eight seasons coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.
