AZUSA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team collected its third consecutive victory on Saturday night, defeating Azusa Pacific 75-66 at the Felix Event Center.
CSUSM improved to 3-1 on the season while APU dropped to 2-4 overall.
Trailing in the first 10 minutes, a
Tyson Kygar 3-pointer after timeout gave CSUSM a 19-18 lead with 9:13 remaining in the opening half. APU challenged at the end of the first half, but back-to-back free throws by Kygar handed CSUSM a 33-29 advantage at the break.
CSUSM never gave up the lead in the second half, extending it to a game-high 11 points with 26 seconds remaining.
Ethan Alvano led all scorers with 23 points, going 6-of-14 from the field and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Joe Boyd notched his second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Dayton Boddie and Kygar each reached double digits after finishing with 10 and 11 points, respectively.
CSUSM secured 11 second-chance points while APU only converted four times.
Will Ferris tallied 17 points for APU in his 26 minutes on the court.
The Cougars return to The Sports Center on Tuesday, Nov. 22, hosting San Diego Christian at 7 p.m.
