SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team begins California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this week, traveling to Arcata for a showdown against Humboldt State.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE

• The Cougars went 1-1 in the #CSUSMHoops Classic last weekend.
• CSUSM dropped a 51-83 decision to No. 2 Cal Baptist.
• A 31-point fourth-quarter surge lifted CSUSM to a 77-72 victory over Montana State Billings in the #CSUSMHoops finale. Four different Cougars reached double-figures with juniors Raegan Lillie and Savannah Camp each dropping 15 points.
• CSUSM was picked to finish seventh in today's CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll.

RUNDOWN OF HUMBOLDT STATE

• The Cougars are 1-2 overall against the Lumberjacks.
• In their last showdown, the Cougars came out victorious in Arcata with a 62-59 win on Feb. 25.
• The Jacks dropped back-to-back games in the West Region Challenge in Seattle last weekend, falling to Western Washington (91-49) and host Seattle Pacific (67-36).
• Junior guard Catharine Rees is averaging a team-best 12.5 points per game and shooting 9-of-17 (.529) from the field.

THE CCAA CONFERENCE

• Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
• The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.

THE JIMENEZ FILE

• Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
• Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 in her eight seasons coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.
