LOS ANGELES – Cal State San Marcos volleyball team's late rally in the fifth comes up short at Cal State L.A. on Tuesday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. Final scores were 25-15, 23-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 15-13.
The Cougars trailed 14-7 before sparking a six-point run to close the gap. The Golden Eagles finally nabbed their 15th point to clinch the match victory.
"This was an amazing match for us, competing hard and taking an experienced team to the tilt," said CSUSM head coach
Andrea Leonard. "Our perseverance and execution were stellar tonight. The team showed where our program is heading and there was nothing but pride in these Cougars tonight."
CSUSM falls to 12-8 overall and 5-6 in conference action while the Golden Eagles improved to 13-6, 9-2 in CCAA play.

Brooke Butler and freshman
Madi Anderson each recorded double-doubles in the contest. Butler tallied 13 kills and 14 digs while Anderson chipped in 13 kills and 10 digs. Freshman
Maddy Newcombe registered 11 kills, three blocks and two aces. Sophomore
Faith Fortune finished with four blocks.
CSULA's Alma Serna hit .429 with 20 kills on 35 attempts and made only five errors in addition to her seven blocks.
