OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Five Cal State San Marcos men's basketball players reached double digits in the scoring column as the Cougars defeated Bristol University, 87-72, on Saturday at MiraCosta College.
Ben Dickinson led the Cougar offense with 18 points while
Darnell Taylor snagged his second double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Taran Brown chipped in 12 points, followed by
Declan Daly's 11 points and
Collin Host's 10 points.
The Cougars outrebounded the Bears 46-26 with 16 boards come on the offensive end.
In the first half, CSUSM shot only 36.4 percent from the field to Bristol's 45.2 and yet was able to take a 39-33 lead into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Dickinson went on a tear by scoring nine points in a three-minute span to increase the Cougars lead to 57-44. The Bears answered with a 16-5 run to make it a two-point game (62-60). The Cougars never relinquished their lead by capitalizing on Bristol's 18 fouls by going 21-of-24 at the charity stripe in the second half.
Bristol's Devontae Bryant also dropped 18 points and Joesph Sankey added 14 points.
The Cougars return to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Thursday, Jan. 21, hosting No. 25 Chico State at MiraCosta College. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
