IRVINE, Calif. – Damon Moore became the 24th Cougar to post a qualifying time for outdoor nationals and the Cal State San Marcos track & field teams continued to show improvement with stellar performances at the 21st adidas/Steve Scott Invitational, the namesake event for Cougar head coach Steve Scott, on Saturday at UC Irvine.Moore posted a qualifying time for the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships after running a season-best and "B" standard of 54.37 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Brittany Hollie won her 100-meter hurdles heat with an "A" standard and new personal-best time of 14.28. It is the seventh time this outdoor season that Hollie has registered an "A" standard time in the event.
Kamarria Rehn ran a PR time of 12.51 in the 100m, just .31 seconds off the "B" standard mark.
Natalie Rodriguez recorded a PR, running a 2:16.13 in the 800m, finishing second in her heat and missing the "B" standard by just .13 seconds.
Also posting a PR in the 800m was
Salena Gallardo, whose time of 2:18.12 shed 1.47 seconds off of her previous personal-best.
Ryan Maize placed third in his 1500m heat, finishing with an "A" standard time of 3:54.39, .25 seconds shy of his personal-best set earlier this season.
Justin Washington finished second in his 800m heat with a "B" standard time of 1:53.15. Washington has twice posted "A" standard times in the event this season.
Frederik Jahr leaped 2.0m in the high jump to tie for second with two NCAA Division I jumpers from the University of Michigan.
In the sprints,
Jordan Lucas set a new PR and finished third in his 200m heat with a time of 21.80, .15 seconds off the "B" standard. Lucas placed second in his 100m heat with a time of 10.95.
Daniel Ybarra will be running in the
Orange County Half Marathon on Sunday morning, looking to improve upon the "B" standard time of 1:12:56 he ran at the Surf City Half Marathon in Huntington Beach, Calif. in February.
Next up for the women's squad will be the
Claremont Classic Multi-Event Competition on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, both the men's and women's squads will compete at the
Oxy Invitational at Occidental College in Los Angeles. These will be the final competitions before qualified student-athletes travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the NAIA National Championships May 21 to May 23.
