SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos offense erupted for 69 hits and 54 runs to record the second series sweep over fellow A.I.I. conference member Antelope Valley this season. Saturday's doubleheader featured 21-9 and 9-4 victories for the Cougar baseball team after clinching 15-2 and 9-8 wins in Lancaster on Friday afternoon.
With the victories, CSUSM improves to 26-12 overall and 7-0 in conference play while the Pioneers drop to 18-25.

Austin Ott drove in five runs and plated four times while going 6-for-9 with three doubles and a triple. Junior
Stefan Miladinovich tallied five hits while seniors
Denny Vigo and
Dylan Costello each added four hits.

Game 1The Cougars started off a bit slow, finding themselves down 7-3 after 4.5 innings to the Pioneers. A 10-run fifth inning tied CSUSM most runs scored in a single inning this season, matching the Cougars' performance against Bethesda on March 6.
The fifth inning consisted of nine hits including a bases-clearing triple by
Brandon Bentson and
Denny Vigo's two-run homer.
After the Pioneers put up a run in the top of the sixth, the Cougars tacked on six more runs in their half of the frame. Ott recorded a triple and a RBI double while Patchen posted a 2 RBI double in the inning.
Junior
Manny Barragan received a no-decision after going 4.2 innings, giving up six runs on five hits and striking out two batters.
Cameron MacKenzie picked up his second win of the season after a 1.2 performance on the hill. He relinquished two runs on three hits.
UAV's Ayrton Costa, appearing in relief, suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits.
Every Cougar in the starting lineup collected a hit with Ott leading the way with a 5-for-6 performance at the plate.
Game TwoFacing the Antelope Valley ace Costa, who began the day with a 7-1 record, the Cougars were shut down until the bottom of the sixth when once again their bats exploded. This time it was a nine-run inning featuring seven hits and three walks.
Miladinovich led off the sixth inning with a stand-up triple off the right center wall and Bentson followed with a double through the right side. Three consecutive walks put CSUSM on the board. Junior
Jon Putnam hit a 2 RBI single through the left side to put CSUSM on top 3-2. Ott, Miladinovich and Costello each recorded doubles as the Cougars extended their lead to 9-2.
The Pioneers posted a small rally in the top of the seventh as Jonas Wellan hit a two-out 2 RBI single to make it 9-4. Senior
Justin Hertzmann got the final out on a 31 groundout by Victor Barron.
For the second time Saturday, a CSUSM starting pitcher got a no decision as senior
Kyle Montiel went 4.2 innings, giving up just one hit on two runs (one earned). Junior
Jake Villalobos snagged his first win of the year after tossing 1.1 shutout innings.
Notes: Twenty-three of CSUSM's 69 hits were for extra bases, including 15 doubles, five triples and three home runs … The Cougars finished the weekend batting .439 as a team.
