SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Plagued by fielding errors, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped a 16-10 decision to visiting Biola University on Tuesday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.
CSUSM and Biola each tallied 14 hits in the contest with the deciding factor being a 6-1 error difference.
Freshman
Austin Ott was CSUSM's big hitter on the day, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Junior
Stefan Miladinovich also had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a run and a stolen base.
Down 6-2, the Cougars scored seven times in the bottom of the third to take their only lead of the game. Senior

Tyler Place drew a walk, both runners advanced on a wild pitch and later scored on Ott's double. Junior
L.A. Gamo laid down a bunt single down the first base line and advanced to second on a Biola error as Ott slid safely home. Miladinovich's singled through the left side and stole second to set up back-to-back sacrifice flies by junior

Biola answered with three runs on four hits that included two ground-rule doubles in the next frame to even the game at 9-9.
The Eagles retook the lead in the top of the sixth on a RBI bunt single by Jimmy Gallarda. After recording another run in the sixth, Biola would spread out five runs in seventh and ninth innings.
A planned staff day for CSUSM, six different Cougars took the mound on Tuesday. Junior
Cameron MacKenzie took the loss after giving up five runs – four earned – despite retiring five consecutive batters. Biola's Buddy Brouwer clinched the win after four innings of work, relinquishing three runs on five hits.
Andres Rodriguez led Biola with a 5-for-6 performance.
The Cougars (23-13) travel to Irvine on Wednesday, April 15 to face No. 19 Concordia at 3 p.m.
