SAN MARCOS, Calif. – No. 12 Cal State San Marcos hosts its first top-25 opponent of the season in No. 14 Biola on Thursday at CSUSM Softball Field. Sunday's originally scheduled doubleheader against La Sierra has been canceled due to a lack of available players from LSU. CSUSM will be granted two forfeit victories pending approval from the NAIA.

Biola PreviewBiola enters Thursday's contests as a winner of four straight after taking home back-to-back doubleheaders against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and Arizona Christian in Arizona. The Eagles had dropped six of their last nine prior to that.

Last meeting: W, 3-2; L, 1-3 (Feb. 22, 2014); In the first game, the Cougars got on the scoreboard early after
Caylyn Rodriguez singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch. Biola's CeCe Luster flipped the score with a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the frame, but CSUSM scraped together two more runs in the second inning on a pair of errors, the second of which allowed
Amy Hartwell and pinch runner
Breana Reyes to score. The second game started out well for the Cougars as well, with
Ashley Dagenais tossing four shutout innings and
Tani Leasau's single in the second inning giving CSUSM a 1-0 lead. However, Biola's bats came through in the fifth inning for three runs.
Streak SnappedThe Cougars had a 14-game winning streak snapped o Feb. 27 against Vanguard. After taking down the Lions 4-2 on a walk-off homerun by
Melyssa Bellamy, the Cougars dropped a 7-3 contest to VU in game two. The unbeaten run is tied for the fourth-longest in CSUSM program history.

Who We AreCSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year competing in the NAIA.
