SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team plays five home games in six days this week, beginning with Vanguard on Tuesday afternoon.

Reserved Seating

There are 36 home baseball games and 24 home softball games. Reserved seating for each sport is $100 per seat. Vanguard Preview
All-time record vs. VU: 14-12
Conference: GSAC
Last meeting: W, 7-3 (April 9, 2014). Starter Kyle Montiel shut down then No. 14 Vanguard over a career-high eight innings of work, as the Cougars nabbed their seventh consecutive win. Montiel allowed nine hits, but limited the Lions to just three runs, two earned, while striking out four. Denny Vigo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double.
Vanguard Breakdown: The Lions shutout Arizona Christian, 2-0, in the rubber game to collect the series win last weekend in Costa Mesa. Paul Keating is leading Vanguard's offense, batting .327 with two doubles and three triples.

Lewis-Clark State Preview
All-time record vs. LCSC: First meeting
Conference: Frontier
LCSC Breakdown: The Warriors, who were runner-ups at the Avista-NAIA World Series last season, are ranked No. 2 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll released Nov. 11. With the graduation of 16 seniors, LCSC is looking at junior infielder/pitcher Ty Jackson and sophomore center fielder Raymond Pedrina.
 
La Sierra Preview
All-time record vs. LSU: 25-4
Conference: GSAC
Last meeting: W, 9-1 (April 22, 2014). The Cougars won their seventh consecutive game against the Golden Eagles. CSUSM racked up 15 hits that included two doubles from Brooks Noble. All seven of the Cougars' pitchers gave up exactly one hit to the Golden Eagles.
LSU Breakdown: The Golden Eagles enter the week on a seven-game losing streak and have a doubleheader slated against Simpson on Friday, Feb. 13.

Notes
Denny Vigo went 8-for-12 with three doubles in the four games he has played … Tyler Place is off to a stellar start in his freshman campaign, accumulating a team-leading 10 hits (four doubles) in the first five games … Brandon Bentson and Stefan Miladinovich has reached base safely in each of the first six games of 2015.

Opening Day Long Ball
Senior Stefan Miladinovich became the third Cougar in CSUSM baseball program history to hit a home run on Opening Day. In the program's inaugural game, Terry Mortiz led off the second inning with a home run on Jan. 24, 2007. Johnny Omahen homered in the 8-7 victory over Vanguard on Jan. 28, 2011.
 
The Coaching Staff 
Head Coach Dennis Pugh enters his ninth season at the helm since building the program from the ground up starting in 2007. He holds a 193-124-2 (.608) all-time record and has led the Cougars to the postseason for five consecutive years. Pitching coach Pat Hause, who guided Cougar pitchers to the 22nd-lowest ERA in the nation in 2014 (3.25), is back for his nine year, as well. Art Warren and Mark Wilson are back for their fifth and fourth seasons, respectively. Rick Lepire is the lone newcomer to this year's staff.

Who We Are
CSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year in the NAIA.
