SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 12 Cal State San Marcos softball team will get a preview of what it will be like to play in the NCAA Division II California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend.

Cal State San Bernardino PreviewThe Cougars and Coyotes have gone over seven years without seeing other. The only previous games between the teams were in 2007 – the Cougars' first season as a program. CSUSB went 29-24 overall last year and were eliminated in the opening round of the CCAA conference tournament. CSUSB is currently under new leadership, as former Cal State Dominguez Hills head coach Jim Maier was appointed the Coyotes' new coach in the offseason. CSUSB has been picked to finish seventh in the CCAA in the preseason coaches' poll.

Last meeting: L, 0-3; L, 4-13 (Feb. 17, 2007); The two contests were just CSUSM"s eighth and ninth games as a program. CSUSM traveled to San Bernardino to play each game.
Cal State Dominguez Hills PreviewCSUSM and CSUDH have a little more of history, as the teams have played at total of four times. CSUDH was picked to finish eighth in the 2015 CCAA coaches' preseason poll, coming off a 17-35 season in Kim Aggabao's first year as head coach.

Last meeting: W, 6-5 (Feb. 2, 2014); CSUSM met the Toros in the semifinals of last year's Best of the West Invite in Turlock, Calif. It was the only game of the tournament decided by less than seven runs, as the Cougars swept the all-Division II competition. Down one in the seventh inning,

In The RanksCSUSM received 321 total points in the 2015 NAIA Softball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 12. The Cougars have now been ranked for 53 consecutive polls dating back to Apr. 7, 2009.
Who We AreCSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year competing in the NAIA.
