Cougars Take On Point Loma Wednesday

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Coming off a strong showing at the Northern New Mexico Classic, the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team looks to keep the momentum going when the Cougars host Point Loma at MiraCosta College on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Kids 12 & Under Free When Wearing Basketball Jersey
Admission to every CSUSM home game is free for youth 12 & under when wearing their youth team's jersey to the game. Accompanying parents will be admitted for a discounted rate of $5. Regular adult ticket prices are $7, while children 12 & under and seniors over 55 and older are $5.

Point Loma Preview
All-time vs. PLNU: 1-6
Conference: The PacWest (NCAA Division II)
Last Meeting: L, 68-75 (Dec. 9, 2014). A pair of spirited comeback efforts were not quite enough for the Cougars as Point Loma held on to the win at Golden Gymnasium. Senior Cassie Damyanovich scored a season-high 28 points and tied her own school record of six buckets from beyond the arc. Senior Heather Thompson tallied her fourth double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Brianna Higgins added 11 points.
PLNU Breakdown: The Sea Lions have already clinched a playoff berth in the PacWest Championship with a 13-5 conference record.  They have won 12 of their last 15 games including a 73-55 victory over BYU-Hawaii last Saturday.  Jessica Escorza is leading PLNU with 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
 
Last Game Recap
The Cougars closed out the Northern New Mexico Classic with a 64-49 victory over the host NNMC on Sunday.  Senior Cassie Damyanovich led the Cougars with a game-high 24 points, going 9-of-13 from the field and hit six of her ten 3-point attempts. Senior Heather Thompson registered 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

One More Home Games After Wednesday
Although it was Senior Night on Saturday, Jan 31, it was not the last time the Cougars will be playing at MiraCosta College this season.  CSUSM closes its home schedule with a showdown against San Diego Christian on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
 
Who We Are
CSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year in the NAIA.
