ESPANOLA, N.M. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team topped Johnson & Wales (Colo.) 79-64 on Saturday afternoon in the Northern New Mexico Classic at Eagle Gym.

Heather Thompson snagged her seventh double-double while leading the Cougars with 21 points and 13 rebounds on top of her six assists. Senior
Mackenzie Harnett also registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Cassie Damyanovich dropped 15 points that included four buckets from beyond the arc.
The Cougars committed just 13 turnovers while dishing out 22 assists, tying their season high this season.
After Johnson & Wales opened the game with a 3-pointer, CSUSM answered with a 10-0 run. The Wildcats charged back and evened the game at 32-32 on a 3-pointer by Kristen Ward at the 4:44 mark. Damyanovich's 3-pointer at the end of the first half put the Cougars up 45-38 at the break.
CSUSM never relinquished its lead in the second half and went 11-for-14 from the charity stripe.
The Cougars improve to 10-14 overall and will turn around to face host Northern New Mexico at noon at Eagle Gym.
