New Conference
Cal State San Marcos is in its first season competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The CCAA is made up of 12 CSU institutions and UC San Diego. The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II leagues in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other NCAA Division II conference.

Rules Are A Changing in 2015-16
There are major changes in women's basketball this season. Games will now consist of four 10-minute quarters rather than two 20-minute halves. Teams will also now be awarded two free throws fro each common foul beginning with the fifth team foul in each quarter.

Cougars Collect First CCAA Victory
On Homecoming Night, CSUSM took down Sonoma State, 73-61, to record its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory in program history last Saturday. Ashley Jenkins and Savannah Camp each tallied season highs with 25 points. Camp completed her first double-double of the season with the addition of 10 rebounds.

Point Loma Preview
All-time vs. PLNU: 1-7

Last Meeting vs. PLNU: L, 68-75 (Dec. 9, 2014). A pair of spirited comeback efforts was not quite enough for the Cougars as Point Loma held on to a 75-68 win last year. Cassie Damyanovich scored a season-best 28 points and tied her own school record of six 3-pointers.

PLNU Breakdown: Point Loma, picked to finish fifth in the PacWest this season, has stumbled a bit out of the gate. The Sea Lions dropped a 61-50 decision to PacWest runner-up favorite Azusa Pacific in their conference opener before falling victim to an upset by Dixie State (79-69), who was picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll.

Chico State Preview
All-time vs. Chico State: The two squads have only faced each other in an exhibition game in 2011.

Last meeting vs. Chico State: W, 65-64 (Oct. 30, 2011). Although the game was officially recorded as an exhibition, it was the Cougars first taste of victory in their inaugural season. A 3-pointer by Justine Chacon with 10 seconds remaining put CSUSM on top over the Wildcats.  Chico State would go on to be the 2012 CCAA Tournament Runner-up and make an appearance in the NCAA West Regionals.

Chico State Breakdown: After opening the season 4-0, the Wildcats have dropped two consecutive games to begin their conference season.  Chico State suffered a 49-47 heartbreaker at the hands of San Francisco State Dec. 4 before falling to Cal State East Bay, 69-45, the following night.

The Renee Jimenez File
Renee Jimenez took the helm of the CSUSM women's basketball program on May 22, 2015. She brings a wealth of knowledge as a head coach in the CCAA, compiling a 125-71 record in the past seven seasons. Jimenez spent the last two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino (2013-15) after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay (2008-13).

New Territory
After four seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
