OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped a 69-52 decision to Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Thursday night at MiraCosta College.
Despite shooting only 29.4-percent from beyond the arc, the Cougars connected on 10 3-pointers to tie the program record they set at NCAA Division I UNLV last month.
The Cougars fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play. Playing their conference opener, the Lumberjacks improve to 3-4 overall (1-0 CCAA).
For the third time this season, sophomore
Savannah Camp led the Cougar offense with 14 points. Junior
Ashley Ontiveros added 11 points while senior
Brianna Higgins and junior
Jasmine Matar each pulled down six boards.
Down 38-20 at the half, the Cougars cut the gap to eight points on a 3-pointer by Camp with 7:04 remaining in the third quarter. But the Jacks quickly reestablished a double-digit cushion and held it for the remainder of the game.
Amanda Kunst scored 17 points for HSU. Kiana Brown and A'Jaee Foster each chipped in 14 points.
The Cougars continue their four-game homestand on Saturday, hosting Sonoma State in their annual Homecoming Game. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
