Cougars Fall on Senior Day to No. 21 Sonoma State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 21 Sonoma State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Sunday afternoon at Hunter Gym. Final scores were 25-21, 25-12 and 25-14. 
 
The Cougars had no answer for the Seawolf offense who produced 41 kills on 96 attempts and made only nine errors for a .333 clip.
 
CSUSM drops to 6-21 overall and 3-15 in CCAA action. Sonoma (21-3, 17-1 CCAA) clinched at least a share of the CCAA regular season title with the win.
 
Seniors Jordan Banich and Taylor DeGraaf led CSUSM's offense with nine and eight kills, respectively. Freshman Cheyanne Patin chipped in seven kills and four blocks.
 
CSUSM came out hot, challenging the Seawolves by tying the set seven times and recording four lead changes. The Cougars broke out to take an 11-6 lead but Sonoma answered with a 9-2 run and cruised to a 25-21 win in the opening set.
 
The second set was tight until Sonoma rattled off eight unanswered points to take a 20-10 lead. They took a 2-0 lead into intermission after a 25-12 set win.
 
The Seawwolves controlled the third set from the get-go and eventually collected a 25-14 win to earn their sixth consecutive sweep of the season.
 
Sonoma's Caylie Seitz led all hitters with 14 kills and a .423 clip.  Rachel Andrews tallied nine total blocks including four solo blocks.
 
Prior to the first serve today, there was a short ceremony honoring seniors Taylor DeGraaf and Jordan Banich

The Cougars wrap up their 2015 season on the road, visiting Cal State East Bay on Thrusday, Nov. 12 followed by a match-up at San Francisco State on Friday, Nov. 13.
