OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team collected its first victory of the 2015-16 season with a 63-46 victory over San Diego Christian on Saturday night at MiraCosta College.
After taking a 32-25 lead into halftime, the Cougars (1-2) limited the Hawks (4-2) to only five points in the third quarter.
Three Cougars reached double digits in scoring with sophomore
Savannah Camp leading the way with 14 points. Juniors
Ashley Ontiveros recorded 11 points and
Paige Barber added 10 points. Junior
Ashley Jenkins tallied eight points, six rebounds and six assists. Junior
Jasmine Matar pulled down a game-high eight rebounds on top of her three blocked shots.
The Cougars led by as many as 20 points with 1:06 remaining in the third quarter.
CSUSM shot 50-percent from the field for the game after 12-of-24 and 13-of-26 performances in each half, respectively.
Berika Egberuare, Abigail Vargas and Alexa Arndt each had seven points for the Hawks.
CSUSM continues its four-game home stand on Thursday, Dec. 3 when the Cougars host Humboldt State at 6 p.m. This will be CSUSM's second California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference game of the season.
