LAS VEGAS – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped a 62-43 decision at NCAA Division I UNLV on Monday night at Cox Pavilion.
Just two games into the season, the Cougars broke a CSUSM single game record after hitting 10 3-pointers. The previous record was eight, achieved on five different occasions.
CSUSM goes to 0-2 on the year, while UNLV improves to 4-0
. Sophomores
Paige Barber and
Savannah Camp led CSUSM's offense with 12 points apiece. Additionally, Camp tallied four rebounds and three steals. Junior
Ashley Jenkins registered a game-high five assists on top of recording six points and three rebounds. Senior
Brianna Higgins pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
Three Rebels tallied double-digits in scoring with Nikki Wheatley leading the way with 16 points. Aley Rohde finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Brooke Johnson added 14 points.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when they play their home opener against San Diego Christian. Tip-off for that game will be 6 p.m.
