Rules Are A Changing in 2015-16
There are major changes in women's basketball this season. Games will now consist of four 10-minute quarters rather than two 20-minute halves. Teams will also now be awarded two free throws fro each common foul beginning with the fifth team foul in each quarter.

UC San Diego
All-time vs. UCSD: 0-1

Last time vs. UCSD: CSUSM fell to the Tritons, 85-55, in the 2011 UCSD Thanksgiving Classic. The Cougars were led by Sidney Dobner and Gabriell Munsch, who both tallied 14 points. Danielle Cooper pulled down a game-high 10 boards.

UCSD Breakdown: The Tritons concluded 2014-15 with an 18-10 overall record and 16-6 in CCAA play with a berth to the conference tournament. Their season came to an end with a 69-58 loss to Cal State San Bernardino in the first round of the CCAA Tournament. UCSD has been picked to finish runner-up in the 2015-16 CCAA regular season in a preseason poll voted on by the league coaches.

The Renee Jimenez File
Renee Jimenez took the helm of the CSUSM women's basketball program on May 22, 2015. She brings a wealth of knowledge as a head coach in the CCAA, compiling a 125-71 record in the past seven seasons. Jimenez spent the last two season at Cal State San Bernardino (2013-15) after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay (2008-13).

Who's Back and Who's Not
The Cougars bring back five letter winners – Crystal Hicks, Brianna Higgins, Kylie Coppi, Shayd Bowers and Paige Barber – from last year's team that defended it's Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference title and finished 16-16 overall. Also donning Cougar blue against this season is Lindsay Uyematsu and Lynette Mackey who redshirted last season. CSUSM said goodbye to four – Two-time NAIA All-American Heather Thompson, Cassie Damyanovich, Mackenzie Harnett and Alex Alvarado – who were instrumental in building the young program from the ground up five years ago.

Newcomers
Among the seven new Cougars, three are junior college transfers, two come from a four-year college and one is a true freshman. Ashley Jenkins, Jessica Scott and Jasmine Matar all come to CSUSM from top junior college women's basketball programs. Escondido native Savannah Camp is a sophomore transfer from CCAA opponent San Francisco State. Danielle Bender comes to CSUSM after playing her freshman year at Fresno Pacific last season. Vicki Vo is the lone freshman on the 2015-16 squad.

New Territory
After four seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2015 and 2016.

New Conference
Cal State San Marcos is in its first season competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The CCAA is made up of 12 CSU institutions and UC San Diego. The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II leagues in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other NCAA Division II conference.
