CSUSM Regains No. 1 Ranking in NAIA Division I National Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team is back at No. 1 in the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, it was announced Tuesday. In the fifth regular-season edition, the Cougars earned 246 total points and 5-of-10 first-place votes.

CSUSM (20-2) was previously ranked No. 1 from Dec. 9, 2014 – Jan. 5, 2015. The Cougars then spent two weeks at No. 3, Jan. 6 – 19, before moving up to No. 2 last week.

Campbellsville (Ky.) (19-3), which held the No. 1 position for the previous three polls, dropped to No. 6 after a pair of losses over the weekend. No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.) (20-1) moved up a slot with 241 total points and a pair of first-place nods. Hope International moved up to No. 3.

Today marks the ninth all-time No. 1 ranking for CSUSM, the fifth-most No. 1-billings in NAIA history. The Cougars have been ranked in the top-five of NAIA Division I for 18 straight weeks dating back to December 10, 2013. They've also been ranked for 31 consecutive weeks.

CSUSM and Pikeville were the fastest teams to reach the 20-win threshold this season.

The Cougars came back from 20 points down with 6:41 remaining in the second half to overtake Northern New Mexico, 100-91 (2OT), in their most recent action on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Pikeville has won 14 games in a row.

The Cougars are off until Wednesday, Feb. 4 at The Master's College before hosting No. 14 Concordia (Calif.) on Feb. 7 in their final home game.
