Cougars End Season in Quarterfinals of CCAA Tournament

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (14-14) saw its 2025-26 season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the CCAA Tournament as it dropped a 62-52 decision to Cal Poly Humboldt (16-13) on Thursday evening at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars struck first on an early Chris Carrillo tip‑in and held a narrow lead through the first several minutes as both teams traded defensive stops.
  • Micah Boone's dunk at the 14:35 mark highlighted a brief burst that put CSUSM ahead 6-5.
  • The Cougars pushed the margin to 14-10 with 8:08 left in the half following buckets from Carrillo and Keavie Love, marking their largest lead of the game.
  • With CSUSM up 19-15 with 5:20 to go, Humboldt went on a 10-0 run and took a 25-19 lead with 43 seconds remaining in the period.
  • The Lumberjacks took a 26-21 lead into halftime as CSUSM shot 30.8% (8-of-26) in the first half while Humboldt finished at 50.0% (8-of-16).
  • Boone opened the second half aggressively, scoring eight straight Cougar points to help cut the deficit to 32-29 with 15:49 remaining.
  • A three-pointer by Aaron Ragen trimmed the margin to 37–34, but Humboldt responded with a 7-0 run to stretch its lead to double digits at 44-34 with 10:50 to go.
