Heather Thompson pulled down a team-high nine boards while blocking three shots.
CSUSM trailed 29-19 at halftime.
The Lions held a slight edge on the boards, out-rebounding CSUSM 43-41.
Vanguard's Amber Alexander snagged a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cougars (6-12) host Northern New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The game is CSUSM's Military Appreciation Night – all former and active military members and their families will receive free admission with valid military ID.
