CARLSBAD, Calif. – Junior
Jordan Banich's match-high 16 kills was not enough to lift the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team to a victory as the Cougars fell in four sets (18-25, 25-21, 14-25, 23-25) to Westmont Monday at Pacific Ridge School.
The Cougars drop to 11-5 while the Warriors improve to 6-6 on the year.
"This is an opportunity for us to work on our mental game and to focus overall," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "If you can have a loss that wakes you up, this is definitely one of them."
Freshman
Cheyenne Richards also reached double-digits in kills with 11. Banich and Richards were both just one dig away from joining senior
Alyssa Foster with a double-double. Foster dished out 37 assists while tallying 19 digs.
CSUSM offense found its grove in the second set, recording the highest attack average of the night at .361 (16-3-36). Richards led the way going 6-for-7 with no errors (.857).
Madison Serrano led Westmont with nine kills and 18 digs. Ciena Colburn was a part of seven of the Warriors' 11 blocks.
The Cougars return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 10, hosting Pacific Union at 5 p.m.
