Box Score BracketLYNN, Mass. – The third-seeded Cal State San Marcos baseball team edged top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett College, 5-4, on the second day of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Baseball Championship on Saturday at Fraser Field.
CSUSM was behind 3-0 and 4-2, but added a run in the fifth before
Dylan Costello's RBI single made it 4-4 in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Tyler Bernard came aboard with a walk and
Terrence Buchanan was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.
Brandon Bentson and
Rich Montanez were retired, but
Ray Patchen kept the Cougars's season alive with a single up the middle.
Bernard was able to dislodge the ball from the cather in the play at the plate and the Cougars espaped with the 5-4 win.
The Cougars improve to 30-17 and advance to face sixth-seeded Houston-Victoria (21-30) in another elimination game on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT (1:00 p.m. ET).
If CSUSM can beat UHV, the Cougars will be in the tournament finals on Monday at 10:00 a.m. PT (1:00 p.m.).
