Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – The No. 1 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team won its first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Division I Conference Championship with a 112-95 win over host Life (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon at the Eagles' Nest.
The Cougars have won 21 straight games and stand at 30-1 overall. They receive the A.I.I.'s automatic berth to the 77
th-annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship, March 19-25 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The Cougars will be making their second straight appearance.
Bobby Macias led the Cougars' second-half charge and finished with a season-high 25 points on  8-of-13 shooting.
De'End Parker and
Jason Johnson added 24 points apiece.
Malcolm Lemmons barely missed becoming the fourth player with 20 points, but settled for a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Parker was named the A.I.I.'s Most Outstanding Player and Johnson joined him on the A.I.I. All-Tournament Team.
"This was a total team win, everybody contributed and we got the job done," said CSUSM head coach
Jim Saia. "It was a shootout and it was up and down all night. Just a complete team effort."
Johnson set the pace for the Cougars in the first half. He scored 17 to lift CSUSM to a 51-48 advantage at the break.
The teams traded baskets to start the frame, but Parker hit a 3-pointer and got fouled to give the Cougars a two-possession lead on the subsequent four-point play.
Zack Zaragoza contributed 10 rebounds and a pair of 3-pointers off the bench. CSUSM shot 44.8 percent (13-of-29) as a team from behind the arc.
CSUSM outrebounded Life (19-14) 59-33.
