IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 16 Cal State San Marcos baseball team could not push a run across in its doubleheader against No. 9 Concordia (Calif.), falling 5-0 twice to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at CU Baseball Field.
The Cougars drop to 15-12 overall after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of the Eagles. CSUSM has dropped four of its last five since winning a program-best, 11-straight games between Feb. 15 and Mar. 16. CU improves to 26-9.
Andrew Brooks delivered a complete-game performance for CUI in the opening game, striking out six while allowing seven hits.
Dylan Costello and
Denny Vigo each had two hits, while
Tyler Bernard tripled in the eighth inning.
Hunter Brown (4-2) worked five innings on the mound for CSUSM, striking out five, and allowing eight hits and a pair of earned runs.
In game two, Robbie Ingram went six innings for the Eagles, striking out six while allowing seven hits.
The Cougars once again had seven hits.
Brandon Bentson went 2-for-3.
Kyle Montiel (3-1) made the start for CSUSM, allowing five runs on five hits. Only one run against Montiel was earned.
The Cougars will be back in action on Friday, March 28, as San Diego Christian comes to CSUSM Baseball Field. SDCC will be the home team for next Friday's game.
