THE WEEK IN REVIEW
CSUSM played in just two games last week,
splitting a doubleheader against Biola (10-2). The red-hot Cougar offense, averaging 1.25 runs per game entering Saturday's contests, was outhit for the first and second times all season but won the first contest 3-2 behind a complete game two-hitter from starting pitcher
Katie Wilkinson.
Â
In the second game,
Tani Leasau drove in a run with an RBI single in the second inning and
Ashley Dagenais pitched four shutout innings, but the Eagles came back to win 3-1.
Â
THIS WEEK'S PREVIEW
CSUSM hasn't yet faced any of their opponents this week other than Tennessee Wesleyan, who the Cougars swept 8-0 and 5-0 back in 2010.
Â
Lindenwood-Belleville, traveling all the way from Illinois, holds just a 1-4 record but defeated No. 4 Williams Baptist 6-2 in their opening tournament in Arkansas. The Lynx finished last season season with a 24-21 record, but won the 2013 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championships without trailing at any point in the tournament, finishing the season on an eight game winning streak.
Â
San Diego Christian has never lost in its team history, which is not as surprising once one learns the team is in its first season as a program. Yet the Hawks won their first ever games against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) earlier this month, defeating the Eagles 6-5 and 12-5.
Â
Tennessee Wesleyan has struggled coming out of the gate in 2014 with a 1-6 record, but don't sleep on the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have played four games against teams mentioned in the
Preseason NAIA Top-25 poll, and have lost four games by two runs or less. Last season, Tennessee Wesleyan went 23-18, finishing third in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Â
Lake Superior State is yet to play in 2014 due to the cold temperatures in the northernmost part of Michigan, just a mile away from the Canadian border. The Lakers compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and went 7-22 last season.
