IRVINE, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's track and field team competed at the Concordia Last Chance Qualifier Meet on Saturday and returned home with several new school records and national qualifiers.
Senior
Kelly Thompson added a few more school records to her decorated career at CSUSM, winning the mile race with a new school record of 4:58.56, running the third fastest time in the NAIA and breaking
Heidi Swanson's previous record by 3.8 seconds. Swanson had quite a race of her own, breaking her own personal record with a mark of 5:00.94— the sixth fastest time recorded in the NAIA this season.
Thompson came back with another strong performance in the 3000m, winning again with a mark of 9:50.72 and posting the second fastest time in the NAIA.Â
Kate Bouvatte and freshman Raelyn Worley also qualified for the NAIA National Championships by hitting the NAIA "A" standard of 10:30 in the event. Bouvatte ran 10:08.89 while Worley completed the distance in 10:28.40.
In the women's pentathlon,
Kelly Skvarna broke the school record with 2870 points, and teammate
Savanna Holmen was just five points behind her with 2865.Â
The Cougars will compete next at the Rossi Relays in Claremont on Saturday, February 22.Â
