SAN MARCOS, Calif.— The No. 8 ranked Cal State San Marcos softball team will bring its perfect 10-0 record on the road to Irvine Saturday as the Cougars will face defending NAIA National Champion and No. 1 ranked Concordia (Calif.) (5-1). The matchup between the perennial national title contenders and the only two teams to hold the No. 1 spot in 2013 is the first meeting between teams since 2010. th).

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cougars had a busy weekend, playing doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday last week. CSUSM
took down a tough Vanguard squad that is receiving votes in the
NAIA Coaches' Poll, winning the first game of their doubleheader 8-2 behind a grand slam from
Brenna Parker. The second game of the doubleheader was tied 3-3 after five innings before being suspended for darkness. The remainder of the game will be made up before a meeting between the teams Thursday, March 27 at the CSUSM Softball Field.
Â
On Saturday, Parker smacked her third homerun of the season and racked up five RBI in a
pair of shutout victories over the University of La Verne.
Katie Wilkinson pitched in both games, hurling six scoreless innings and lowering her ERA to 0.60. Shortstop
Melyssa Bellamy went 5-for-10 with a double, a triple, and a walk on the weekend to improve her average to .438. Also swinging a hot bat was
Mallory Campbell, who went 5-for-7 with a double and two walks in the three games. Campbell is hitting a team-best .522 on the season.
Â
THIS WEEK'S PREVIEW
CSUSM is 7-7 all time against the Eagles, though no players on either roster have ever faced the opposing squad. Concordia went 52-3 last season en route to its first ever NAIA National Championship, and is 5-1 this season thus far. Since the start of the 2012 season the Eagles have been tough to beat at home, boasting a 59-3 (.952) record.
Â
Much like the Cougars, who returned just
Katie Wilkinson from last year's pitching staff; the Eagles are also breaking in new pitchers with NAIA Pitcher of the Year and two-time NAIA All-American Katie Cotta having graduated. Â Second-team All-American Shainna Groom graduated as well and is now a member of the coaching staff, but Concordia still has a pair of sluggers who ripped 12 and 11 homeruns last year in Jenna Jorgenson and Emily Craig.
Â
All-American honorable mention Jasmin Dresser led the Eagles in batting average in 2013 as a freshman, and sparks an offense that is hitting .374 this season in six games. CSUSM is hitting an impressive .364 this season with five of its ten games coming against NCAA Division II competition.
Â
On the opposite side of the ball, CSUSM is holding its opponents to just a .204 batting average and .264 on base percentage, while the Eagles have limited its competition to a .226 batting line and a .305 on base percentage.
