SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior
Heather Thompson registered her second double-double of the season, but the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team could not keep pace with No. 13 Westmont on Tuesday night at Murchison Gymnasium. The Cougars dropped a 79-54 decision to the Warriors.
Things began on a positive note for the Cougars, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 30 seconds. A Thompson jumper gave the Cougars their final lead at 6-4 at the 18:26 mark, but the wheels fell off the wagon after that. The Warriors answered with a 16-0 run and took a 48-19 lead into the halftime break.
CSUSM outscored Westmont in the second half, 35-31. Unfortunately, the game was already out-of-reach for the Cougars.
Thompson collected a game-high 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Senior
Mackenzie Harnett chipped in 10 points.
The Cougars resume their six-game road trip on Saturday, Nov. 29 when they take on NCAA Division II and future CCAA opponent Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
