SEASIDE, Calif. – The gloomy weather outside made its way into the Otter Sports Center where the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped an 81-67 decision to Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday afternoon.
"We need to play better, period," said head coach
Crystal Harris. "We need to practice better, learn from our mistakes and carry it over to the next game.
"Our schedule is not getting any easier."
Senior forward
Heather Thompson just missed out on her third double-double of the season, knocking down 19 points and nine rebounds. She registered a season-high four blocked shots and went 9-of-11 at the free throw line. Senior
Mackenzie Harnett collected 13 points while dishing out three assists.
The hardest hitting statistic for the Cougars were the team's 24 turnovers, which ultimately resulted in several baskets in transition. The rest of the statistics were solid as CSUSM shot 41 percent (16-of-39) from the field and held the rebound margin close at 32-27.
The Cougars once again outscored their opponent in the second half, this time to the tune of 41-37.
CSUSM looks forward to returning home next week when the Cougars host No. 3 Vanguard on Thursday, Dec. 4 at MiraCosta College. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
