Blake Nash scored a game-high 22 and the No. 3 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team outscored Fisk (Tenn.) by 20 in the second half on the way to an 88-66 victory in Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference play on Tuesday night in the Hope Classic at Darling Pavilion.
CSUSM improves to 8-0 and 1-0 in A.I.I. competition, while Fisk drops to 0-9 and 0-1 A.I.I.
Fisk kept pace with CSUSM in the first half with a decent shooting performance, but the Cougars held the Bulldogs to just 29 percent (9-of-31) in the second half. Meanwhile, CSUSM started the final stanza with an 18-6 run that put Fisk in a hole it could not get out of.
Camper finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while
Blake Nash narrowly missed out on a double-double with 21 and nine.
Akachi Okugo pitched in 15 points with three 3-pointers.
Big man
Declan Daly led the team with seven assists on the night. He added 10 boards, four on the offensive end, and six points.
The Cougars will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah on Thanksgiving to take part in the Westminster Thanksgiving Classic, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29 at Westminster College.
CSUSM opens the competition on Friday against Montana Tech at 3 p.m. PT. Saturday, the Cougars will play their fifth ranked opponent this month in No. 15 Westminster at 5 p.m. PT.
