LAS VEGAS – Blake Nash scored a game-high 31 points as the No. 3 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team topped No. 22 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) 93-80 in its opening game of the Tip-Off Classic hosted by Concordia (Calif.).

Nash went 11-of-14 from the floor, hit 5-of-8 3-point baskets and added four steals and three assists while turning the ball over just twice. Backcourt mate Tyson Kygar went 5-of-7 from downtown and ended the night with 17 points and a game-high five assists.

CSUSM improves to 3-0 ahead of its matchup tomorrow against No. 18 Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) at 3 p.m. RMC drops to 3-1.

The Cougars held the Battlin' Bears to just 19.4 percent shooting in the first half and took 27-point advantage into the break, 48-21. RMC was much better in the second half, shooting at a 57.1-percent rate, but the Cougars' 55.2 percent shooting clip and a 14-of-23 (60.9%) night from behind the arc kept the Bears at bay.

Akachi Okugo hit 4-of-6 3-point baskets and finished the night with 15 points and four assists. Declan Daly became CSUSM's first double-digit rebounder of the season with 10 boards while adding seven points.

CSUSM turned the ball over 21 times in the contest for 25 RMC points. However, the Cougars outscored RMC in the paint and on second-chance points; the CSUSM bench outdueled the Bears' counterpart, 44-33. Reserve Jacob Andersson led the Cougars with 34 minutes played.
