CLAREMONT, Calif. – Freshman
Andrew Tellames led the ninth-ranked Cal State San Marcos cross country team to a second place finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday at Blanchard Park.
The Cougars actually tied with NCAA Division II
nationally-ranked and CCAA top team Cal Poly Pomona with 70 points, but won the tiebreaker with sixth man
Michael Waltrip placing 28th. Host Pomona-Pitzer won the event with 35 points.
"I am very pleased with the performance that both the men and women gave today," said head coach
Steve Scott. "The men ran a very strong race and had an overall faster team time (about 45 seconds) than last year's race.
Tallamas placed fourth in the race in a time of 25:33. Junior
Enrique Ramirez and sophomore
Daniel Ybarra were the next two Cougars to cross the line, for tenth and 11th, respectively.
"At this point in the season last year, the men were ranked somewhere in the top 10," Scott said. "To see that we ran a faster team time today means that we are doing really well and have a lot to look forward to in the rest of the season."
CSUSM is back in action in two weeks, hosting the Cougar Challenge on Oct. 18 at Mangrum Track.
