SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team swept the No. 19 Vanguard in its final match of The Master's College Tournament on Saturday in Santa Clarita, Calif. The Cougars move to 18-9 overall with the win.
"We came out focused with a determination to improve on our match vs. Master's," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "Our team not only executed, but we were also able to become more aggressive in pressure situations.
"We are excited to continue on this path!"
Sophomore outside hitter
Brooke Butler led the Cougars, tallying 13 kills and 14 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Kristin Parker added seven kills on a .357 hitting percentage, while freshman
Cheyenne Richards chipped in eight kills and hit .571 on the night.
Senior setter
Alyssa Foster finished with 32 assists and four kills, while freshman libero
Samantha Flores a team-high 15 digs. Senior middle blocker
Erin Talafus collected a match-best five blocks.
As a team, the Cougars racked up eight service aces and nine blocks to shut down the Lions.
Vanguard was led by Jessica Chase and Jessica Neves who recorded 13 and ten kills, respectively.
Sophomore
Taylor Harris served up an ace to give CSUSM a 25-23 first set victory.
Back-to-back kills by junior
Jordan Banich and Parker pushed the Cougars to a 2-0 lead after a 27-25 second set win.
CSUSM clinched the sweep on a block by Richards and Talafus to take the third set 25-20.
The Cougars take on fifth-ranked Biola on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in La Mirada, Calif. First serve is 7 p.m.
