CSUSM scored four runs thanks in part to a pair of LSU errors in the second inning. Arlington scored on an error on

th run.

Game 2
CSUSM took the first jab in the second game, as back-to-back doubles by Arlington and Putnam made it 1-0.
Bernard then gave the Cougars some slight breathing room, singling into centerfield to drive home
Kyle Hansen and make it 2-0.
It would turn out to be the game-winning run.
In the bottom half of the inning, Ricky Alvarez reached base on a two-out walk from Montiel. Marquis Kidd followed with a double to left-center that scored Alvarez and pulled LSU within one. Montiel was able to escape the threat by forcing Adrian Gardea to ground out to second.
LSU had an opportunity to tie it up in the fifth, as Joe Mascarenaz led-off with a single and advanced to second base with one out on a wild pitch. However, Hertzmann would get Cole Chaisson to ground out before Montanez caught Mascarenaz trying to take third on a pitch in the dirt.
Montiel pitched four innings, striking out six while surrendering just three hits and a walk. It was his first start as a Cougar.
CSUSM returns to action next Tuesday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. with a single game against Chapman at CSUSM Baseball Field.
