Cortney Allen and Kaitlin McGinley Headline NFCA NAIA All-Region Team

Cougars receive five honorees to National Fastpitch Coaches Association West Region teams.

NFCA All-Region Teams

SAN MARCOS, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos softball team had five players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA All-West Region Teams, including two first team selections.

The awards were selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the five regions, and all 133 student-athlete honorees from across the country are eligible to be named to the NFCA NAIA All-American Teams, which will be announced June 4.

Leading the way for the Cougars on the West Region first team were pitcher Cortney Allen and outfielder Kaitlin McGinley.

Allen finished the year 34-7 with a 1.12 ERA in 249.2 innings pitched, striking out 203 batters. The senior from Elk Grove, Calif. was second in the NAIA in wins, was a part of 14 shutouts, and allowed opponents to just a .196 batting average against.

McGinley hit above .400 for the second straight season, going 67-for-167 (.401) with 42 stolen bases in 43 attempts. Her stolen base total was the fourth best in the NAIA, and her 7 triples ranked third nationally.

CSUSM also had three players make the second team All-West Region. First baseman Alex Miller led the Cougars with a .435 batting average and a team high four homeruns. However, the slugger from San Diego, Calif. also led the entire NAIA in doubles with 23— a goal she set out to achieve at the beginning of the season. Miller also walked 26 times compared to just 10 strikeouts, giving her a .507 on base percentage.

Second baseman Olivia Lucatuorto was also named to the all-region team after leading the No. 5 Cougars in runs batted in (45 in 55 games). The sophomore hit .322 and stole seven bases in seven attempts.

Shortstop Sarah Quiambao returned from a mid-season injury to be a sparkplug for the Cougars offensively and defensively. The junior hit .347 with 12 doubles in 121 at bats and was a key cog in the Cougar defense that finished second in the NAIA in fielding percentage (.979).

The Cougars finished the season 43-12 and made it to the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Ga.
