Meet Results
MARION, Ind.— The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a banner afternoon Saturday in the final day of the NAIA National Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
The Cougars recorded eight NAIA All-Americans Saturday to give them a total of nine for the championships. The women as a team placed 13
th overall with 24.20 points, while the men took 40
th with 6 points.
Kelly Thompson had the top finish of the day for CSUSM, placing third in the 5,000m with a time of 17:17.66. The senior from Vista, Calif. wrapped up her outstanding CSUSM career with her sixth All-American award— the most individual All-American awards ever by any CSUSM athlete. Thompson scored six points with her third place finish in the team scoring for the Cougars in the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring format.
The women's 4x100m relay consisting of
Brianny Williams,
Krystle Osby,
Tiffany West, and
Amber Rosario also earned All-American recognition with their fourth place finish, running a season best 46.85 in the final and squeezing by Baker by .02 of a second for the fourth spot.
Rosario and Williams each added an individual All-American award to their resumes with fourth and fifth place finishes in the 100m hurdles, respectively. Rosario ran 14.16 in the event while Williams crossed the line in 14.31.
Ayded Reyes earned her first All-American award in the 3000m steeplechase placing seventh with a mark of 10:56.91, while
Marissa Daly picked up her first All-American honors as well in the high jump. Daly cleared 1.63 meters (5' 4.25”) on her second attempt, sending her to a five-way tie for eighth place— the final spot required to earn All-American honors and score team points.
The longest event of the day was the marathon, where
Claire Hauso and
Cady Villareal wrapped up their Cougar careers over the 26.2 mile distance. Hauso placed 37
th with a time of 3:33:14.01, while Villareal withdrew due to injury.
Freshman
Darrian Frazier had a strong showing in the triple jump, placing tenth in his first national competition. Frazier jumped 14.38m (47' 7.25”) and was the second best freshman in the event.
Like any good track meet, the national championships concluded with the 4x400m relays, in which the Cougars did not disappoint. The women's relay consisting of
Krystle Osby,
Tiffany West,
Emily Petros, and
Amber Rosario placed seventh in 3:49.75— their best time of the season.
Not to be outdone, the men's relay of
Nguyen Pham,
Chung Pham,
Hector Collazo, and
Damon Moore ran a school record 3:11.08 to place fourth, and earn All-American honors. They broke the record of 3:12.46 set in 2010, and set a personal best for the season by over three seconds.
The Cougars' nine All-American award winners (7 female, 2 male) are the second best total in program history, ranking behind only the 2012 total of 10 All-Americans (8 female, 2 male). For a complete list of CSUSM
