Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos softball team returned from Spring Break sharp as ever, picking up a pair of 8-0 road victories at La Sierra Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as
Alex Miller led off the game with a double to deep left center, and scored on a
Kaitlin McGinley groundout.
McGinley brought home Miller once again in the third inning with an RBI triple, and then scored on a
Patricia Banda bunt single to extend the lead to 3-0.
Caylyn Rodriguez knocked a two-run single to center field in the fourth to give CSUSM a commanding 5-0 lead until the seventh inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Cougars tacked on three more runs on a
Sarah Quiambao single, an error, and a
Melyssa Bellamy double to make the score 8-0.
Cortney Allen (25-2) kept the Golden Eagles with just one hit allowed through five innings, and
Katie Wilkinson closed out the shutout with two scoreless innings to end the game.
In the second game, the Cougars jumped out to an 8-0 lead within the first three innings and held on to record a five-inning run-rule victory.
Alex Miller (2-for-4 with a double) scored three runs and
Kaitlin McGinley went 2-for-3 with three RBI and her second triple of the day to move her into a tie for second place on the NAIA triples list with six on the season.
Patricia Banda also had a nice game going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Cortney Allen (26-2) pitched all five innings, allowing just two hits to pick up her NAIA leading 26
th win of the year.
CSUSM improved to 33-5 on the season and 8-0 in A.I.I. conference play with the victories Sunday. The Cougars play next on Saturday, April 13 at Hope International in Fullerton.
