The Cougars earned their 30
th win of the season on Saturday afternoon against then-No. 9 The Master's College,
10-2. It marks the third time the Cougars have won 30 or more games in a season in the program's seven-year history. CSUSM needs four more victories to match the school record for wins (34-19 in 2011). The Cougars went 31-15-1 in 2010.
Raising Arizona
Arizona Christian is in just its third year as a program, but it is very familiar with CSUSM. The teams have already played 15 games in two seasons; the Cougars lead the all-time series 12-3. Last year, the Cougars went 6-2 against the Firestorm, including a
four-game sweep on Mar. 23-24 in Phoenix.
Marcus Meraz batted .455 (5-for-11) with six RBI in all games vs. ACU.
Kenny Belzer hit three homeruns, drove in 15, scored 11 times, and hit .414 (12-for-29).
Where We At?
The Cougars are 3-3 over their last six games following a six-game winning streak from April 5-9. They fell in two of three in a three-game series last weekend against No. 9 The Master's College.
Mike Guadagnini went 5-for-11 (.455) with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBI in the series while
Brandon Bentson was 6-for-14 (.429) with three RBI, six runs and a homer.
A.I.I. Seedings to Be Released Sunday
The seeds for the five-team Association of Independent Institutions Tournament will be announced on Sunday evening, April 28. The field will include CSUSM (30-9, 9-1 A.I.I.), LSU-Alexandria (35-17, 3-4 A.I.I.), Fisher College (32-15, 0-3 A.I.I.), Ashford (Iowa) (20-14, 2-3 A.I.I.) and University of Houston-Victoria (19-21, 7-3 A.I.I.). The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.
